My Story

My Cancer Story

I hope that by sharing my story, I can help raise awareness, remind both women and men to check their breasts, and encourage anyone with concerns to seek medical help no matter where you are or what you’re doing.

In October 2022, at age 38, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. To say this was a massive shock is a huge understatement. I was feeling fantastic, fit, happy and thought I was healthy at the time.

Ben and I were travelling around Australia and were 6 months into our trip around Australia when I felt a lump. I sought medical help straight away. I was not at an age for routine screening scans, so it was lucky I was able to feel a lump myself.

I was seen to and advised to make the trip (12hours) to Perth for scans, biopsies, but that it possibly was nothing to be too concerned about. had no other symptoms that pointed to breast cancer.

The results came back detecting cancer.

Plans were put into motion. We made our way home to NSW and the next morning I met with one of my specialists, before having surgery, 4 months of chemo followed by 3 weeks of radiation. Medical treatment happened very quickly post receiving my results.

My PET scan showed that the cancer had not reached my lymph nodes or travelled from the quadrant in my breast. I was given further good news post surgery, they believe the cancer was removed and the margins were clear.

I’ll continue to have ongoing checks (by medical professionals and by me) and share my story to try and encourage everyone to check and get checked.

Trust yourself, if you think something is not right, get medical help, no matter where you are or what you are doing.

2 years on, I’m doing well, rocking an awesome head of curls and excited for all the fun adventures ahead.

I’m extremely grateful for the care and treatment by the talented medical teams, and for all the love and support from my amazing family and friends. I’ll be forever grateful.

Angela xoxo
